India’s MedTech Boom: AI, Government Push, and Explosive Growth Ahead
New Delhi is buzzing with excitement over the future of medical technology, or MedTech, as leaders from around the world gather to talk innovation and growth. At the MedTech Forum 2025, hosted by the Asia Pacific Medical Technology Association (APACMed) in the capital, experts highlighted how India is stepping up to become a global powerhouse in this field.
John Collings, Chairman of APACMed and President of Asia Pacific for Stryker, shared his enthusiasm in a chat with on the event’s sidelines. "India is investing heavily in creating opportunities for companies to team up with authorities and bring cutting-edge technology to life," he said. Collings pointed out that APACMed brings together 300 companies from across the globe, with members from 20-30 countries all eyeing ways to advance healthcare in India.
A big highlight? Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare. "AI has massive potential to ease the burden of diseases and drive real progress," Collings added. He praised the Indian government’s efforts, saying they’re opening doors for businesses to collaborate and deliver future-ready tech. "The Indian market is a huge opportunity, set for explosive growth," he noted, making it clear why global players are so keen on India.
The forum also featured insights from Anupriya Patel, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. She called MedTech a "sunrise sector" in India – one that’s just getting started with bright prospects. "The Government of India has rolled out several policy initiatives to boost this industry," Patel said. On the ground, domestic manufacturing is picking up speed, and exports are climbing across the board.
Right now, India’s MedTech sector is worth about $12 billion, and experts predict it could more than double by 2030. Key moves like the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme are encouraging local production of medical devices. Plus, world-class medical devices parks are taking shape in states like Madhya Pradesh (MP), Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh, complete with top-notch infrastructure to support innovation.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Patel reflected on the event: "It was a pleasure to join the MedTech Forum 2025 in New Delhi today and speak to all the participants. Big congrats to APACMed and everyone involved on this successful first event in India. I’m sure the two-day discussions will spark deep talks among medical device companies, startups, hospitals, policymakers, and regulators on regional challenges, partnerships, and fresh ideas for innovation."
Events like this show India’s rising star in global MedTech. With AI advancements, strong government support, and a focus on manufacturing, the country is gearing up to lead in healthcare innovation. Watch this space – the growth story is just beginning!
