The Indian Coast Guard Ship ICGS Sachet touched down in Maputo, Mozambique, on Friday, October 11. The vessel, an offshore patrol ship, is part of India’s larger effort to strengthen ties and promote safety across the African coast.
During its stop in Maputo, Sachet carried 20 metric tonnes of humanitarian aid—medical supplies and medicines—that will be handed to Mozambican authorities. This cargo is a clear sign of India’s commitment to help improve health and disaster response in Mozambique.
The visit also highlighted maritime cooperation between India and Mozambique. Crew members will meet with local maritime agencies to share expertise in Marine Pollution Response (MPR), Maritime Search & Rescue (M‑SAR), and maritime law enforcement. Hands‑on training will cover Visit, Board, Search and Seizure (VBSS) tactics, pollution drills and joint cultural activities to build deeper ties between the two navies.
Beyond the professional exchanges, the ship’s crew, including NCC cadets and Assam Rifles personnel, will join community events. They will help clean beaches and run marine‑awareness programs with local youth. These activities support India’s Puneet Sagar Abhiyan campaign, aimed at reducing marine pollution and raising environmental awareness along coastlines.
By combining humanitarian aid with practical training and community outreach, India’s ICGS Sachet demonstrates its growing maritime reach and its role as a partner of choice in the Gulf of Africa. This visit marks another step in India’s SAGAR vision—“Security and Growth for All in the Region”—showing how naval cooperation can boost regional stability and global connectivity.
