In Dhaka, Bangladesh, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) under India’s High Commission hosted a lively event on September 23 to mark National Ayurveda Day 2025. Dignitaries, medical experts, yoga fans, and young people from Bangladesh gathered to celebrate India’s ancient wellness traditions, focusing on how Ayurveda supports both personal health and the planet’s balance.
This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People, Ayurveda for Planet,” spotlights Ayurveda’s role in boosting individual well-being while promoting eco-friendly and sustainable living. Ann Mary George, IGCC’s director, kicked off the event with a warm welcome. She pointed out the deep ties between India and Bangladesh—shared history, language, culture, and even traditional medicine. “Ayurveda has thrived in Bangladesh for centuries,” George said. It plays a key part in the country’s health policies, right alongside Unani, Yoga, and Homoeopathy. With similar climates and plants in both nations, she added, there’s huge potential for teamwork in research and new ideas on traditional medicine.
George also shared that many Bangladeshi students head to India to study these ancient healing practices, which builds stronger cultural and knowledge exchanges. India stands ready to partner with Bangladesh on Ayurveda through joint research, education, and sharing top tips for better health.
Dr. Sarik Hasan Khan, vice principal of Dhaka’s Government Unani and Ayurvedic Medical College, gave the keynote speech. He stressed how Ayurveda and Unani systems shine in preventive healthcare, helping people stay healthy before problems arise.
The event kept things interactive with a short film tracing the “Journey of Ayurveda,” plus a dynamic yoga demo by IGCC instructor Shahanaz Parvin Shikha. Farhana Sultana Karim, founder of Yoga Bliss in Dhaka, then led a hands-on yoga session that got everyone moving and engaged.
The gathering tied Ayurveda to India’s bigger push for a healthier nation via the Swasth Bharat Yojana. This initiative ramps up healthcare setups, tracks diseases early, fuels biomedical research, and embraces the One Health idea—connecting human, animal, and environmental health for true sustainability.
Overall, National Ayurveda Day 2025 at IGCC Dhaka showed Ayurveda’s timeless power to foster India-Bangladesh friendship. It highlighted practical ways to embrace holistic health and eco-conscious living through traditional medicine. ()
