Indonesia to buy 42 fighter jets from China marking its first non-Western aircraft purchase deal

Indonesia’s Defence Minister, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, told reporters this week that Jakarta plans to buy new fighter jets from China soon. The move is part of a broader effort to modernise the country’s armed forces and boost its air‑defence capabilities. Sjamsoeddin said the procurement would help fill gaps left by older aircraft and give the Indonesian military a more advanced toolkit to protect national airspace.
