Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam arrived in New Delhi on Sunday, marking a key moment in his eight-day official visit to India. He touched down at the airport and received a warm welcome from Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. This visit highlights the strong ties between India and Mauritius, with Ramgoolam focusing on bilateral talks and cultural exchanges.
Before heading to the capital, Ramgoolam made a spiritual stop at the famous Tirumala Temple in Tirupati. He offered prayers there, embracing the rich traditions that connect the two nations. The Ministry of External Affairs shared the moment on X, noting how the Mauritius PM landed in New Delhi and got a heartfelt reception from Sanjay Seth.
On Monday, Ramgoolam attended a special event at Bramarishi Ashram in Tirupati. The ashram’s revered spiritual leader, Siddhguru Sideswar Bramedswi Gurudev Swami, greeted him with praise for his leadership and down-to-earth nature. “He is the founder of Mauritius—like the Father of the Nation, just like Mahatma Gandhi,” Swami said. “He’s so humble and simple. I visited his house, and the Prime Minister came to the Tirupati temple and our ashram with his wife. They make a beautiful couple.”
Swami also revealed an exciting announcement: a massive $1 billion investment from Bramarishi Ashram into Mauritius. This will boost free education, hospital facilities, and overall development in the island nation. “Our Prime Minister is like a Sethu—a bridge between both countries,” he added. “He’s our biggest supporter, and we pray for both leaders.”
In response, Ramgoolam shared a personal story about his connection with Swami. “Last September, four people visited my place during Parliament sessions,” he recalled. “They told me Swami came from India and I had to meet him—everyone in the Hindu community here knows him well. For religion and prayer, I queue up like anyone else. I promised I’d visit India, and now I’m here.”
This trip, from September 9 to 16, underscores the deep India-Mauritius relations, blending diplomacy with cultural bonds. Ramgoolam’s visit to Tirupati and the ashram shows how spiritual ties strengthen people-to-people connections between the two countries.
