Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam wrapped up his eight-day visit to India with a heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in New Delhi on Tuesday. The leader paid his respects at the iconic memorial and signed the visitors’ book, marking a poignant end to his official trip.
Before heading back, Ramgoolam has more on his schedule. He plans to check out the new Parliament building and meet President Droupadi Murmu. His visit kicked off on Sunday when he landed in New Delhi, greeted warmly at the airport by Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth. The Ministry of External Affairs shared the moment on social media, with spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posting: “PM Navin Ramgoolam of Mauritius lands in New Delhi. Warmly received by MoS for Defence Sanjay Seth at the airport.”
The trip wasn’t just about politics—Ramgoolam dove into India’s spiritual side too. Earlier, he visited the famous Tirumala Temple in Tirupati and stopped by the Bramarishi Ashram. There, spiritual leader Siddhguru Sideswar Bramedswi Gurudev Swami welcomed him with open arms, praising the PM’s down-to-earth style.
Swami didn’t hold back on the compliments. “He is the founder of Mauritius—he’s like the Father of the Nation, just like Mahatma Gandhi. So humble and simple! When I visited his house, I saw that. The Prime Minister came to the Tirupati temple and our ashram with his wife. They make a beautiful couple,” Swami said at the event.
In a big announcement, Swami revealed plans to boost Mauritius with a massive investment. “I’m happy to say we’re investing $1,000 million from Bramarishi Ashram in education, development, free education, hospital facilities, and nation-building. Our Prime Minister is the Sethu—a bridge between us. He’s our biggest supporter. We pray for both of you,” he added.
Ramgoolam responded with warmth, sharing how the connection started. “Last September, four people visited me during Parliament sessions. They said Swami came from India and I must meet him—it’s important. Everyone in the Hindu community here knows him. For religion and prayer, I queue like everyone else. I promised I’d visit India, and now I’m here,” he said.
This official visit from September 9 to 16 highlights strong India-Mauritius ties, blending political talks with cultural and spiritual moments that strengthen the bond between the two nations.
