Mauritius PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam Visits Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi
Prime Minister of Mauritius, Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam, kicked off his India trip with a spiritual touch. On Friday, he visited the famous Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. This historic site draws millions of devotees, and the Mauritian leader joined them in offering prayers.
Ramgoolam arrived in Varanasi on Wednesday and met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi the next day. They held bilateral talks, signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), and shared a joint press statement. The focus? Boosting ties in key areas like infrastructure, healthcare, digital tech, energy, and maritime security. They also chatted about regional and global issues to strengthen India-Mauritius relations.
Now, all eyes are on Ayodhya, where Ramgoolam heads next. This marks a big moment for the Uttar Pradesh city, famous for the newly built Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Officials are rolling out the red carpet with a traditional Indian welcome, showcasing local culture and hospitality.
Ayodhya District Magistrate Nikhil Tikaram Funde shared exciting details. "The Mauritius PM is visiting Ayodhya today," he said. "Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will personally welcome him. We’ll give a full red-carpet treatment, complete with Indian traditions. After that, he’ll head to Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple for darshan and prayers, then fly out from Ayodhya airport."
Around 30 people, including the PM, will join the temple visit, as per Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra trustee Anil Mishra. "He’ll pray to Ram Lalla and see the Ram Darbar," Mishra explained. "We’ll brief him on the Ram Janmabhoomi history. Then, he’ll visit Kuber Tila for darshan at the Shiv Temple, enjoy a light meal, and depart."
Security is top-notch too. Ayodhya SSP Gaurav Grover assured everything is set. "We’ve made detailed security and admin plans," he said. "The district team and police have checked every spot. Extra forces are in place, and the full itinerary—from airport arrival to takeoff—is planned minute by minute."
To make the city shine, Ayodhya launched a massive cleanliness drive. Municipal workers are sprucing up streets and spots to impress the VIP guest.
This trip is Ramgoolam’s first foreign bilateral visit since taking office, running from September 9 to 16. It’s a great sign of the strong bond between India and Mauritius, blending diplomacy with cultural exchanges at sacred sites like Kashi Vishwanath and Ram Janmabhoomi Temples.
