In New Delhi, the Embassy of Uzbekistan hosted its National Day celebrations and invited India’s top diplomat to serve as the Chief Guest. The invitation was accepted by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Secretary, West, Sibi George, who spoke to the crowd in January and highlighted the historic ties that bind India and Uzbekistan.

George’s remarks underscored the deep‑rooted civilizational links between the two countries and reaffirmed India’s commitment to a growing strategic partnership. The MEA posted a short clip of the event on X (formerly Twitter), sending warm greetings to the Uzbek government and people.

Earlier in the month, on October 1, the 9th India‑Uzbekistan Joint Working Group on Counter‑Terrorism met in Tashkent. The meeting was co‑chaired by MEA’s Joint Secretary Vinod J. Bahade and Uzbek Foreign Minister’s aide Gulomjon Pirimkulov. Delegates reviewed global and regional terror threats, shared views on new challenges such as radicalization, financing, tech‑enabled attacks, and the link between organized crime and terrorism. They also condemned the tragic terror attack on civilians in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025.

Both sides explored ways to strengthen cooperation through information sharing, training, and best‑practice exchanges. They reaffirmed their commitment to working together in multilateral forums—including the UN, SCO‑RATS, and the Eurasian Economic Community (EAG). The next Joint Working Group meeting will take place in India, dates to be decided.

For more details, the Indian Embassy in Uzbekistan shared the meeting’s highlights on X, noting the strong focus on counter‑terrorism and radicalization. This swift exchange of views signals a robust partnership between India and Uzbekistan in both cultural and security realms.
