Export booster: Adani’s Dighi Port set to handle 2 lakh cars a year with Motherson partnership

Ahmedabad, Dec 5 – On this day, Motherson’s joint venture, Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd (SAMRX), revealed that it has signed a deal with Dighi Port Limited (DPL), a subsidiary of Adani Ports. The agreement will see the creation of a dedicated auto‑export terminal at the Dighi Port in Maharashtra.

Dighi, one of the 15 strategic ports in the Adani Ports and SEZ (APSEZ) group, is poised to enhance its services to fit India’s “Make in India” agenda. The new facility will facilitate the smooth export and import of vehicles, boosting the country’s automotive industry.

“We’re combining APSEZ’s integrated infrastructure with Motherson’s logistics expertise to build a seamless, resilient network for moving vehicles across the nation,” said Ashwani Gupta, CEO and Whole‑time Director at Adani Ports. “This RoRo (Roll‑on and Roll‑off) terminal will not only speed up trade and improve supply‑chain efficiency but also deliver lasting benefits to our customers and the communities we serve.”

The partnership positions Dighi Port as a major export hub for vehicle makers based in Mumbai looking to reach the Pune automotive cluster, according to the company.

Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice‑Chairman of the Motherson Group, emphasized that the collaboration with APSEZ represents an important stride toward offering world‑class, integrated logistics solutions to the automotive sector. “By launching this RoRo terminal at Dighi, we’re expanding our service portfolio and creating a strategic asset that will drive efficiency and cut logistics costs for OEM partners,” he added. “This partnership will strengthen India’s automotive supply chain and bring tangible value to our customers.”

The new terminal will boast cutting‑edge infrastructure designed for end‑to‑end finished‑vehicle logistics, streamlining operations for leading automakers. SAMRX will invest in the port to provide a 360‑degree cargo‑tracking solution, fully integrating its services.

Dighi Port serves as a gateway for Maharashtra’s inland industrial corridors, offering closed warehouses, tank farms, and open stockyards for commodity storage. With a current capacity of 633 million tonnes per year, APSEZ handles roughly 28 % of India’s total port throughput and aims to reach one billion tonnes by 2030.
