Police Nab Honey-Trap Gang Leader in Faisalabad Court Drama

In a bold move, police in Faisalabad, Pakistan, arrested Ghulam Batool, the alleged mastermind of a honey-trap gang, right outside a local court. This stunning catch happened on September 18, as reported by ARY News, highlighting the rising threat of online scams and cybercrimes in the country.

Batool, who lives in Dastgir Colony, had tricked a man named Waseem with a fake job offer and then filed a rape case against him at Madina Town police station. But here’s the twist: she struck a deal with Waseem’s family for PKR 500,000 to drop the charges. When Batool showed up before Civil Judge Muhammad Asif to officially withdraw her statement, Inspector Sana Nazir swooped in and slapped handcuffs on her, filing a new case on the spot.

What sealed her fate? Damning video evidence. The footage captures Batool demanding a whopping PKR 1.5 million from Waseem’s family, pushing for an upfront PKR 500,000 payment. A relative begs her to lower the amount, and she finally settles for the half-million to flip her testimony in Waseem’s favor. Investigators say this proves her role in the extortion racket.

This arrest shines a light on the exploding problem of honey-trap scams in Pakistan. The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT) just dropped a warning about surging social media honey traps, extortion schemes, and bogus freelance job offers. Scammers love platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram—they add people to groups without asking and dangle fake jobs to lure victims. Once hooked, they trap folks with explicit content and blackmail them, threatening to leak it unless they pay up.

Demands in these honey-trap extortion cases often hit between PKR 1 million and PKR 1.5 million. Crooks get sneaky by spying on WhatsApp profile pics, usernames, and online habits, then hit targets with phony employer accounts. As cybercrimes like these grip Pakistan, authorities urge everyone to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity to keep online scams at bay.
