Deadly Blasts Rock Pakistan: Nine Killed in Peshawar, More Casualties in Quetta

A powerful bomb blast in Peshawar claimed nine lives and left four police officers critically injured on Thursday, according to local reports from DAWN. The attack targeted a police patrol vehicle, Peshawar’s Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mian Saeed confirmed to DAWN.

"The device was planted right on the route of our police mobile unit," Saeed explained. Rescue teams rushed the wounded officers to a nearby hospital, where doctors described their conditions as serious. Security forces quickly swarmed the scene, sealing off the area to start gathering evidence. Senior Superintendent of Police Operations Masood Bangash told DAWN that investigators are combing the site for clues in this targeted Peshawar explosion.

Just days earlier, on September 30, another devastating blast hit Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, killing at least 10 people and injuring 32 others near the Frontier Corps (FC) headquarters. Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar verified the toll, noting that all the injured received treatment at the local Civil Hospital. Police reported that only eight bodies arrived at the hospital initially after the Quetta bomb blast.

The explosion rocked a busy street as a vehicle turned from Model Town onto Hali Road, close to the FC base, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Special Operations Quetta Muhammad Baloch. Shocking footage from TV and social media showed the massive fireball tearing through the area, highlighting the intensity of this Pakistan terrorism incident.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti slammed the attack as a cowardly terrorist act. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he revealed that security forces struck back fast, taking out four assailants on the spot. "Terrorists cannot weaken our nation’s resolve through such acts," Bugti declared. He offered his support to the families of the victims, praying for the fallen and a quick recovery for the hurt. "The sacrifices of our people and forces won’t go to waste—we’re dedicated to bringing peace and security to Balochistan," he added.

Bugti later addressed the crowd at a Quetta event, announcing that an ongoing operation targets the terrorists behind the Quetta explosion. These back-to-back blasts underscore rising security concerns in Pakistan, with authorities vowing to track down those responsible.
