Pakistan unable to shield children from terror

Terrorists struck twice at girls’ schools in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, destroying one building and damaging another in a chilling assault on education. The attacks happened in Lakki Marwat’s Ghazni Khel tehsil on October 2, sparking widespread fear among locals and highlighting the ongoing threats to children’s schooling in the region.

In the first attack, unidentified militants planted explosives inside the Government Girls Primary School in Pahar Khel Paka village late Tuesday night. The blast tore through the building, completely leveling classrooms and leaving the school in ruins. Luckily, no one was hurt because it occurred after hours. Officials called the strike a blatant effort to rob girls of their right to education. Security forces quickly sealed off the area and started hunting for the attackers.

Not far away, extremists tried to set fire to another school in the same area. They damaged some furniture, but brave residents put out the flames before the building could burn down completely. Police in Ghazni Khel clashed with the militants in a firefight. One officer, Constable Gul Rehman, got injured and was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Tajazai for treatment.

District Police Officer Nazir Khan directed the response, while Deputy Inspector General Sajjad Khan of the Bannu Region commended the team’s courage. “We will crush the militants’ plans to spread terror and target schools through strong vigilance and action,” Sajjad Khan said.

These school attacks in Pakistan underscore a bigger problem: extremists keep hitting at education, especially for girls, to sow fear and halt progress. Local communities are urging the government to boost security around schools so kids can learn safely without interruptions. The incidents have amplified worries about protecting girls’ education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa amid rising terrorist threats.
