ICC chairman Jay Shah praises Women’s team for World Cup triumph, credits BCCI reforms for success

New Delhi, November 3 – ICC Chair Jay Shah cheered the Indian women’s cricket team on Twitter after they captured their first-ever Women’s ODI World Cup title. The victory came in a 52‑run win over South Africa at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, the final of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025.
Shah highlighted how India’s success is a result of talent, effort, and bold changes inside the board. He praised “the grit, resolve and skills of the Indian team that inspired the whole nation” and pointed out key reforms by the BCCI: higher investment, pay parity with male cricketers, a new coaching staff and the growing experience gained in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). “Congratulations to Harmanpreet Kaur and the entire squad for this historic achievement!” he wrote.
The team was led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and head coach Amol Muzumdar, who guided India with calmness and consistency through the tournament. Stand‑out performances came from Shafali Verma, who scored 87 runs and took 2 wickets, Deepti Sharma with 58 runs and 5 wickets, and fast‑bowler Amanjot Kaur, whose spectacular catch dismissed South African star Laura Wolvaardt and tipped the game in India’s favor.
Shah described the win as a “defining moment” for Indian women’s cricket, turning a promise into global dominance. With this triumph, India joins a select group of nations that have lifted the Women’s World Cup trophy, a moment that will echo through generations.
The BCCI’s commitment to equal match fees, enhanced funding, and the launch of the WPL has now paid off, creating a platform for emerging talent to shine on the world stage. The 2025 World Cup win not only celebrates the team’s hard work but also marks a milestone in the growth of women’s cricket in India.
