Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “my friend” on Thursday to congratulate him on a breakthrough under President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan. Modi posted the call on X, praising the agreement that releases all hostages and promises expanded humanitarian aid to Gaza. He also reaffirmed that terrorism is unacceptable anywhere in the world.
Israeli officials echoed the praise. The Israeli Prime Minister’s office posted on X that Netanyahu had just spoken with Modi and thanked him for the successful hostage‑release deal.
The message was joined worldwide. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomed the progress, calling it a critical step toward lasting peace in the Middle East and global stability. In a tweet, he thanked the United States for its diplomatic leadership and urged that the end of violence in one region would lift security risks everywhere. He also expressed hope for the release of long‑held hostages and an end to civilian suffering in Gaza.
French President Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula Von der Leyen welcomed the overnight ceasefire and hostage‑release agreement. Macron praised President Trump and the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, urging all parties to fully comply with the terms. He mentioned France’s readiness to contribute to reconstruction and a political solution rooted in the two‑state model. Von der Leyen echoed the call for full implementation, stressing the EU’s commitment to humanitarian assistance and future recovery in Gaza.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted the role of Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu in securing the first phase of the Trump peace plan. He said the agreement “brings much‑needed respite” to Gaza and paves the way for lasting peace. The Indian government’s ambassador to Israel, Reuven Azar, thanked India for its support and praised the efforts of the United States in achieving the deal.
UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres expressed relief at the ceasefire and hostage‑release pledge, applauding the diplomatic work of the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey. He urged all parties to uphold the agreement fully.
Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al Ansari confirmed that all provisions of the first‑phase ceasefire were agreed upon, including the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of aid into Gaza. He said the details would be released soon.
Prime Minister Netanyahu called the day a “great day for Israel” and said he would convene a cabinet meeting the following day to approve the agreement. He thanked the Israeli military, security forces, and President Trump for their role in freeing the hostages.
Hamas, for the first time since the deal was announced, released a statement on Telegram. It acknowledged the signing of the first‑phase peace plan and called on international actors to compel Israel to fully implement the agreement without delay. The group stated it would remain committed to its goals of freedom, independence, and self‑determination.
Together, these leaders signal a significant shift toward a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, and a renewed push for a political solution in the region. The world watches closely as the hold‑back on the conflict slows, offering hope for a broader peace framework anchored in a two‑state solution.
