Rebel Trinamool legislator Humayun Kabir to launch new party on Dec 22

Humayun Kabir, a former Trinamool Congress MLA from the Bharatpur Assembly seat in Murshidabad, said on Saturday that he will launch his own political party on December 22. He told reporters at his Baharampur home that the new outfit will launch its journey with about 50,000 activists, mostly from Murshidabad. Kabir will chair the party and announce the other top leaders on the same day.
Earlier this week, Kabir announced he was cutting ties with the Trinamool Congress. He did not rule out a possible alliance with the CPI‑M‑led Left Front for the next state election, but the new party will contest the upcoming assembly polls. “We will field candidates from Murshidabad, as well as Nadia, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and North Dinajpur,” he added.
Kabir has been a controversial figure for years. He has repeatedly criticized the Trinamool Congress leadership, sparking embarrassment for senior party members. Trinamool general secretary Abhishek Banerjee warned him that such behavior would not be tolerated, yet he continued to speak out. He has also criticized BJP MP Yusuf Pathan in Berhampore.
The party will be formally floated on December 22, with Kabir as chairman. He hopes the new party will give a fresh voice to voters in West Bengal’s key districts and challenge the established parties in the next election.
