Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev on Thursday at the World Food India 2025 event in New Delhi. The two leaders talked about boosting ties in agriculture, fertilizers, and food processing to create more wins for both countries.
Modi shared his thoughts on X, saying, “Happy to meet Russia Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev at the World Food India 2025. We discussed ways to strengthen our win-win cooperation in agriculture, fertilizers and food processing.”
According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Patrushev called on Modi during the event. They swapped ideas on deepening collaboration in these areas and others that matter to both nations. Modi sent warm greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin and expressed excitement about hosting him in India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
In his speech to attendees at World Food India 2025, Modi painted a bright picture for global investors eyeing India’s food sector. He pointed out India’s “triple strength” of diversity, demand, and scale, making it a top spot for opportunities.
India grows every kind of grain, fruit, and vegetable, Modi explained, giving the country a unique edge on the world stage. He added a fun note: Every 100 kilometers, the food flavors shift, showcasing India’s incredible culinary diversity. This huge domestic demand, he said, gives India a real competitive boost and draws investors like magnets.
Modi also highlighted India’s massive scale. Over the last decade, 250 million people have escaped poverty and joined the “neo middle class”—India’s most driven and ambitious group. He praised the country’s young talent for sparking innovation everywhere, including the food world. India now ranks as the world’s third-largest startup ecosystem, with plenty of new ventures tackling food and agriculture challenges. Tools like AI, e-commerce, drones, and apps are shaking up supply chains, retail, and processing, Modi noted.
All this—diversity, demand, and fresh ideas—makes India the hottest destination for food sector investments, Modi stressed. Echoing his Independence Day message from the Red Fort, he urged businesses: Now’s the time to invest and grow in India.
The World Food India 2025 runs from September 25 to 28 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. It spotlights India’s prowess in food processing, sustainable practices, and producing healthy, organic foods.
A big highlight: The event offers more than Rs 770 crore in credit-linked support to about 26,000 people for small food processing projects totaling over Rs 2,510 crore. This falls under the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme.
Expect plenty of action at World Food India, including CEO roundtables, technical talks, exhibitions, and networking sessions like business-to-business (B2B), business-to-government (B2G), and government-to-government (G2G) meetings. Twenty-one countries are exhibiting, from France and Germany to Iran, Australia, South Korea, and the US, along with 150 international players.
The lineup features thematic sessions on hot topics like India as a Global Food Processing Hub, sustainability and net-zero goals in food processing, cutting-edge innovations, the pet food industry, nutrition-focused processed foods, plant-based options, nutraceuticals, and specialty foods.
