At the United Nations Human Rights Council’s 60th session in Geneva, Switzerland, Govind Singh Rathore, founder of the Sambhali Trust, shared a powerful message on tackling ongoing human rights struggles. Civil society groups like his organization keep pushing for stronger global tools to promote dignity, justice, and equality—and Sambhali Trust leads the way in Rajasthan, India, by empowering marginalized women and girls through education, skills training, and legal awareness programs.

Rathore stressed how vital international human rights bodies are right now, as violence and discrimination keep climbing. “These are not just institutions, but lifelines of hope,” he said. He called for better teamwork across borders and more resources to build up the UN’s human rights system.

Since starting up, Sambhali Trust has reached over 77,000 women and girls in Rajasthan. Their efforts include hands-on vocational training, literacy classes, legal support, and safe shelters. By giving these women the skills to stand on their own and build confidence, the trust works to smash poverty cycles and fight deep-rooted biases.

Rathore also spotlighted India’s homegrown steps to boost human rights. He pointed to programs like the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram, which drives development in communities with large minority populations, and the National Commission for Women, a key protector of women’s rights. These initiatives show India’s commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, especially in pushing for gender equality.

Turning to the global stage, Rathore urged the UN to ramp up support for local efforts like those of grassroots organizations. He pushed for tighter partnerships with civil society to turn human rights promises into real-life wins. “With solidarity and coordinated action, we can ensure that rights are not abstract ideals but lived experiences for all,” he added.
