Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared warm Rosh Hashanah greetings with his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu, the people of Israel, and the Jewish community around the world. He posted on X, the social media platform, wishing everyone a New Year full of peace, hope, and good health. “Shana Tova!” Modi wrote, extending his best to his friend Netanyahu.
This message comes as Rosh Hashanah kicks off the Jewish calendar year 5786. It’s a key holiday in Judaism, marking the start of the High Holy Days with two days of special synagogue services, family time, and prayers focused on reflection and repentance. Jewish tradition holds that it’s the time when God reviews people’s actions and sets their fate for the year ahead in the Book of Life. These sacred days emphasize introspection, spiritual growth, and asking for forgiveness.
India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also joined the celebrations, sending his wishes to Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. “On the occasion of Rosh Hashanah, extend my warm wishes to FM @gidonsaar and the people of Israel. May the New Year bring peace, prosperity and good health to all. Shana Tova!” Jaishankar posted on X.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla added his voice too, greeting Israeli Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana and the global Jewish community. “On the auspicious occasion of #RoshHashanah, I extend my warmest greetings to Speaker @AmirOhana, the people of Israel, and the Jewish community worldwide. May the New Year bring abundant hope, peace, and blessings to all. Shana Tova!” Birla shared on X.
These greetings highlight the strong ties between India and Israel. Just last week, Modi wished Netanyahu a happy 75th birthday and thanked him for his own birthday message, reaffirming their deep friendship and strategic partnership.
