Taiwan detects 9 Chinese aircraft, 7 naval vessels around its territory

Taipei, Taiwan – The Taiwan Ministry of National Defense (MND) said that it spotted nine Chinese military aircraft and seven ships near Taiwan’s waters early Thursday morning. Six of the planes crossed the median line into Taiwan’s northern and southwestern air defence identification zones (ADIZ). The military had already reported 26 aircraft and seven ships on Wednesday, with 18 of those planes breaching the median line into Taiwan’s northern, central and southwestern ADIZ.

The MND posted the information on the X platform (formerly Twitter) at 6 a.m. local time. “We detected 9 sorties of PLA aircraft and 7 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan by 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. Six of the nine sorties crossed the median line into Taiwan’s ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly,” the post read. A second post – after the Wednesday detection – detailed the 26 sorties and noted that Taiwan’s defence forces had taken steps to counter any potential incursion.

While the military moves to tighten security, the Taiwanese government is also boosting safeguards in the country’s medical supply chain. A senior security official said the state is improving its national security mechanisms to guard against Chinese infiltration into Taiwan’s medical cold‑chain logistics. The moves come after Mirror Media revealed that Pharma Logistics, a company that manages medical supplies for nearly half of Taiwan’s major hospitals—including National Taiwan University Hospital and Taipei Veterans General Hospital—has links to Chinese political and military groups through its parent company, Kerry TJ Logistics Co.

Kerry TJ’s parent group links back to the Hong Kong‑based KLN Logistics Group and KHL Holding. These companies invest together in SF Holding Co., China’s largest logistics firm. SF Holding acquired Kerry Logistics in 2021 and maintains a strategic cooperation agreement with the People Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force, operating under China’s military‑civil fusion programme.

Taiwan’s defence community has repeatedly warned that China’s growing air and naval presence around the island poses a serious threat. The MND routinely posts real‑time updates on X, providing a transparent view of neighbour activity in and around Taiwan’s territorial waters.

As the situation stands, Taiwan remains vigilant against potential breaches of its air and maritime domains. Local and national authorities have warned citizens to stay alert if any unknown aircraft or vessels appear near sensitive locations. The international community continues to watch closely as Taiwan’s military monitors airspace and sea lanes that become more contested in the region.
