Telangana to establish AI Centre of Excellence in partnership with Australian university
Hyderabad, Dec 5 – Telangana’s government sealed a deal this Friday to launch a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence, a partnership with Australia’s Deakin University.
The project marks the first skill‑development hub of its kind in India that is centred on advanced AI technologies.
During a briefing at the Secretariat, IT & Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu and Australia’s Minister for International Education, Julian Hill, explained the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding.
Babu said the Centre will be located within the forthcoming AI University at Bharat Future City, and that it will be jointly managed by the Deakin Applied Artificial Intelligence Institute and the Telangana government.
He stressed that the goal is to train globally competitive professionals—not merely to award degrees. “The partnership with the Australian government underlines this vision,” he added.
The agreement fits into Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s wider strategy of bringing top international universities to the state. Under the new Centre, research and advanced training will be offered for sectors such as governance, healthcare, education, IT, life sciences, agriculture, critical minerals, and rare earth metals, positioning Telangana as a leading gateway for Digital India.
“Skill‑development plans are also being rolled out across major educational institutions in the state,” Babu said. “During my recent visit to Australia, we invited Deakin to set up a campus in Telangana. Our innovation‑friendly ecosystem will be further strengthened, and Australia has agreed to provide high‑end training for Telangana professionals abroad.”
The MoU ceremony was attended by Government IT Advisor I. Saikrishna, Australian representatives Cam Green, Karen Sandercock, Nathaniel Webb, Steven Biddle, Hilary McGeachy, Steven Connelly, Vikram Singh, and IT Department Chief Strategist Srikanth Lanka.
