Sergio Gor, the newest US ambassador to India, welcomed the country’s top security official, Ajit Doval, on Saturday for a friendly chat. Gor told reporters that both sides are keen to strengthen a “free and open Indo‑Pacific” and to deepen cooperation on key issues such as trade, defence and technology.
The US Embassy in New Delhi highlighted the meeting on its X account, saying the ambassador enjoyed his time with Doval and reaffirmed the US‑India commitment to a vibrant Indo‑Pacific region. The tweet also noted that the US values its partnership with India and is optimistic about the future.
Gor added that President Donald Trump, who had a personal friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, felt the same confidence. “President Trump sees Prime Minister Modi as a great friend,” he said. He recalled a recent call between the two leaders just before his arrival in New Delhi, a conversation the ambassador said would continue in the coming months.
After arriving, Gor met quickly with three key Indian officials: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Doval. In his talks with Modi, the ambassador covered a range of bilateral topics, including defence cooperation, trade ties, technology collaboration, and the importance of critical minerals for both economies.
“We hit the ground running,” Gor said. “I’ve had productive talks with Dr. Misri, Jaishankar, and Doval, and we just finished a meaningful meeting with Prime Minister Modi where we discussed defence, trade, technology, and critical minerals.” He expressed excitement about building an even closer partnership between the United States and India.
At the start of the day, the US Embassy in India formally welcomed Ambassador‑designate Sergio Gor, and officials said he will work to strengthen ties in the years ahead.
