India’s government has kicked off Special Campaign 5.0 with strong energy in its early stages. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) leads the effort as the main coordinator, focusing on cleaner offices, better record management, and tackling pending tasks.
The campaign splits into two main parts. Right now, from September 15 to 30, teams across ministries and departments are getting ready. Starting October 2, they’ll dive into full action until October 31. During prep time, officials appointed key contact people—called nodal officers—in offices, public sector companies, and other groups. They trained these officers on everything from handling scrap disposal to improving daily workflows.
Teams mobilized workers in the field, spotted backlogged files, and picked sites for the Swachhta cleanliness drive. They also sized up piles of electronic waste, old vehicles, and office junk to clear out, while setting up safe ways to get rid of it. Plus, they’re planning upgrades like sprucing up workspaces, going digital for records, boosting sanitation rules, promoting inclusivity, and sorting files—tossing outdated ones and saving important historical documents.
DARPG tracks all this progress on a special online portal for Special Campaign 5.0. Every ministry and department must log their goals there to keep things on track. The prep kicked off on September 15.
As part of the buzz, the National Archives of India plans a cool event called Sushasn aur Abhilekh Exhibition from October 10 to 14. It will highlight how central ministries have evolved over time and display key historical records from them—perfect for anyone interested in India’s administrative history.
Recently, DARPG Secretary V. Srinivas chaired the third meeting with over 190 senior officers from 84 ministries and departments. They reviewed prep work and shared updates. The National Informatics Centre (NIC) demoed the SCDPM 5.0 portal, showing how to upload data and check targets. Several big players stepped up: The Ministry of Defence, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), Ministry of Culture, Department of Health and Family Welfare, and Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) highlighted wins from last year’s Special Campaign 4.0 and outlined fresh ideas for 5.0.
To spread the word, the campaign team has ramped up outreach. They’ve posted 307 tweets about Special Campaign 5.0 and released 45 statements through the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on social media, TV, print, and online platforms. This shows huge buy-in from across the government.
Looking ahead, DARPG will compile top tips and success stories from Special Campaign 5.0. They’ll share it during Good Governance Week 2025 to inspire even better practices nationwide.
