ACA chair Paul Marsh ‘refreshed’ by Cricket Australia’s take on Khawaja’s Perth pitch comments

New Delhi, Dec 7 (LatestNewsX) – Paul Marsh, who is currently heading the Australian Cricketers Association, said he felt “refreshed” by how Cricket Australia dealt with Usman Khawaja’s comments on the Perth pitch before the Ashes opener.

After the Australians beat England by eight wickets in just two days at Perth Stadium, the 38‑year‑old opener labelled the wickets “a piece of s**t” after 19 batsmen were dismissed on day one, before noting that the surface became more favorable for batting on days two and three.

Following that statement, Cricket Australia was expected to seek an explanation from the 85‑test veteran, particularly since the International Cricket Council had rated the venue as “very good,” the highest score, even though the match finished early.

The governing body later confirmed that no action would be taken, adding that Khawaja’s remarks “did not represent the team’s view of the pitch.”

The ACA chief executive expressed that the move made him feel “quite rejuvenated” and praised Cricket Australia for allowing players to speak freely.

“It was refreshing. I agree with you, the AFL would have done exactly that (in fining him). I think it is okay for players to have opinions, and we don’t have to agree with them. But one of the things I love about this sport is people are able to speak their minds, and Uzzie is one of those who is very comfortable speaking his mind,” Marsh told SEN Cricket.

Marsh also said he had met with the squad before the Gabba Test and that, with Cricket Australia deciding against any punishment, there was little that needed to be addressed.

“I met with the team the other day, there wasn’t really anything to get involved in, given that Cricket Australia decided to not take any action. I think that was appropriate,” he added.
