In Sydney, a shooting on Georges River Road in the Croydon Park suburb sent police into action at roughly 7:45 p.m. local time on Sunday. A man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound and several other people reported injuries. Police sealed off the area, and specialist units helped keep the scene safe. By 9:30 p.m., an arrest was made inside a nearby building, and guns were seized.
The incident caused road closures and traffic was diverted. Local residents were advised to stay away from the area while investigators worked.
Earlier this year, a separate shooting occurred in Brisbane. On September 9, a man was shot by police during a response to a house fire in Wynnum West, about 13 km east of Brisbane’s center. He was immediately treated and sent to hospital with a life‑threatening abdominal gunshot wound. Queensland Police reported no officers or other civilians were hurt and said the public was not at risk. The fire was extinguished and the scene is under investigation.
In Melbourne on September 7, a 26‑year‑old man was shot by an unknown assailant in a vehicle while standing with friends on a corner in the central business district. He was brought to a hospital by his friends but died from his injuries soon after.
These incidents highlight a worrying rise in gun violence across Australia. Police are urging anyone with information about the shootings to come forward and remain vigilant in communities.
