Man shot dead in Melbourne Central Business District

Shocking Shooting in Melbourne: 26-Year-Old Man Killed in Targeted Attack

A tragic shooting rocked Melbourne’s bustling city center early Sunday morning, leaving a 26-year-old man dead. Police in Australia are now hunting for the gunman who fled the scene, as they treat this as a deliberate hit.

The incident unfolded around 3:40 a.m. when the victim stood with friends on a street corner in the central business district. An unknown attacker in a vehicle opened fire, striking him before speeding away, according to reports from Xinhua News Agency. His associates rushed him to a nearby hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his gunshot wounds shortly after.

Detective Inspector Graham Banks shared details at a press conference, calling it a targeted shooting. He revealed that the victim had a known history with police, which might help in the ongoing Melbourne shooting investigation. "This happened right in the heart of the city, even in the early hours—it’s just not acceptable," Banks said, stressing the need for quick action.

To catch the killer, police are pouring significant resources into the case, given the bold location and nature of the Melbourne gun violence. They’re urging the victim’s friends who took him to the hospital to come forward with any information that could crack the case wide open.

This deadly event comes just days after another alarming shooting in Melbourne’s northern suburbs on September 1. In that case, a man and woman ended up in the hospital with severe injuries after a car crash linked to gunfire.

Emergency services responded to a collision between a car and a truck in Epping, about 20 km north of central Melbourne, around 9:30 p.m. The 23-year-old male driver of the car suffered serious gunshot wounds, while the 18-year-old female passenger had life-threatening injuries from the crash itself. The truck driver walked away unharmed, and police confirmed he had no role in the shooting.

Adding to the mystery, officers discovered a third vehicle burning nearby at the scene. Investigators are digging deeper into this recent Melbourne shooting incident to uncover any connections or patterns in the rising gun violence.

Authorities believe these events highlight a worrying trend in targeted attacks across Melbourne. If you have tips on either case, contact local police immediately to help keep the city safe. Stay tuned for updates as the investigations unfold.
