The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a recent attack on the Pakistani military in Balochistan. On Thursday, the BLA said its fighters targeted Pakistani army personnel in the Zamuran area of Kech district, resulting in the death of seven soldiers and injuring four others.
According to the BLA spokesperson, Jeeyand Baloch, their fighters also carried out attacks on Pakistani military posts and surveillance cameras in the Kolwah and Bolan regions. In a statement, he explained that the attack involved planting a remote-controlled IED (improvised explosive device) on a vehicle trying to move into the Zamuran area. The blast destroyed the vehicle and led to the immediate death of seven soldiers, including Naib Subedar Farooq, Lance Naik Karim Dad, Lance Naik Hidayat, and Sepoys Awais and Ali.
The BLA also claimed to have attacked a Pakistani military post in Madag Kalat, using rockets and heavy weapons, causing further damage and casualties. They added that they destroyed surveillance cameras set up by the Pakistani army in the Bolan district’s Shorkand area.
This isn’t the first attack by the BLA recently. Last month, the group announced they killed four Pakistani soldiers during an ambush in Mangocher, Kalat district. The BLA said their fighters targeted a patrol team early in the morning, resulting in four deaths.
BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch also called on the world community to visit Balochistan and see the ground reality for themselves. He invited people to witness mass graves of Baloch youth, families of missing persons, and the areas affected by military operations. He questioned whether the resistance fighters are terrorists or fighting for their human rights and dignity, given the oppression faced in the region.
Balochistan has long been a region of conflict. Many local human rights groups have highlighted heavy-handed actions by Pakistani forces, including violent raids, arrests, enforced disappearances, and operations over which many locals feel oppressed. The ongoing struggle is driven by a demand for independence and greater freedom from what many see as military repression.
