A 39‑year‑old Brazilian nutritionist and fitness star, Diana Arêas, died after falling from the roof of her apartment building in Campos, a town north of Rio de Janeiro. Police say the body was discovered in the common area of the complex early on Thursday.
Arêas, who built a following of 200,000 followers on Instagram, had been rushed to the hospital that morning after first responders found her with extensive lacerations. She was treated, then released a short time later, but she never left the hospital in a medically cleared state. Hours later, police confirmed that she had died at the site.
The authorities are still looking into what happened. No official statement explains why she jumped. Facebook posts, photos, and videos on her account showed her sharing workout routines, nutrition tips, and bikini selfies. She had also competed in several bodybuilding contests, according to her profile.
Just five days before her death, she posted about an upcoming summer challenge, inviting followers to sign up. In the hours that followed, her posts were flooded with tributes from fans: “I’m sorry we won’t have your genius anymore!” and “Rest in peace, my friend. May your soul find peace with our Father.” Her death has sparked a conversation about mental health among the fitness community.
The incident is a grim reminder of the mental pressures faced by influencers, even those who appear to live the “fit” lifestyle. Police are continuing their investigation, and updates will follow as they clarify the circumstances surrounding Diana Arêas’s death.
