US authorities have nabbed the suspected gunman in the tragic shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, marking a swift win in the investigation. The 22-year-old from Utah, identified as Tyler Robinson, was caught in Washington County, roughly 250 miles from the crime scene at Utah Valley University.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox shared the big news at a press conference, declaring, “We got him.” He revealed that detectives uncovered key evidence, including messages on a social media app that pointed straight to Robinson. Cox explained that the suspect had grown increasingly political and clashed with Kirk’s conservative views. In fact, Robinson even confided about the plot to a family member, and a sharp-eyed family friend tipped off the police.
Investigators believe Robinson acted solo, with no other arrests on the horizon. They found bullet casings at the scene, one etched with the provocative words, “Hey fascist! catch!” This chilling detail underscores the political motive behind the attack.
FBI Director Kash Patel praised the teamwork between local and federal teams, noting the arrest happened just 33 hours after the shooting. “Last night, the suspect was taken into custody at 10 pm local time,” Patel said.
President Donald Trump broke the news earlier on Fox News, stating with confidence, “With a high degree of certainty, we have him in custody.” He pointed fingers at left-wing extremism as a driving force behind the surge in political violence across the US. “The radicals on the right oftentimes are radical because they don’t want to see crime. The radicals on the left are the problem, and they’re vicious and they are horrible and they’re politically savvy,” Trump remarked.
