Strengthening Ties: Indian Ambassador Vinay Kwatra Boosts India-US Partnership in Washington
In a key meeting in Washington, Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra sat down with John Moolenaar, the Republican Chairman of the House Select Committee on China. The two leaders talked about the growing India-US relationship, focusing on regional security, manufacturing, and trade.
The Select Committee shared details in a statement, noting that the discussion on Thursday highlighted efforts to move critical manufacturing away from China to India. This comes as both nations work to build stronger economic links and reduce reliance on Chinese supply chains.
Moolenaar praised India as a vital partner for global security. "India is the world’s largest democracy and an essential ally in keeping the world stable," he said. He pointed out that India has faced aggression from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) firsthand, making it a key US security partner. Their defense ties are getting closer, which helps protect people on both sides.
The Chairman also hailed New Delhi’s role in fighting back against CCP-influenced tech and social media giants. "India knows it can’t stay free and safe if the CCP controls the information its people see," Moolenaar added. He mentioned India’s bold move to ban TikTok and other Chinese apps after the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes between Indian and Chinese troops. This step showed India’s firm stand against Chinese influence.
The talks also covered the Quad security partnership—made up of the US, India, Japan, and Australia—and ways to push back against China’s expansionist goals in the Indo-Pacific region.
This meeting follows closely on the heels of Kwatra’s recent visit to the Pentagon, where he met Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby. Kwatra shared on X (formerly Twitter) that it was a "productive conversation" with Colby, reviewing ongoing India-US defense cooperation and planning new steps forward. He appreciated Colby’s expertise and support for their strategic partnership.
Colby echoed the positivity on X, calling it a "valuable discussion." He said the Pentagon is eager to ramp up defense ties with India, which are crucial for both countries.
These interactions signal a deepening India-US alliance, especially amid rising tensions with China. As global security challenges grow, the focus on shared values like democracy and countering threats could lead to even stronger collaboration in defense, trade, and technology.
