Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana wish Suryakumar Yadav on his 35th birthday

Indian cricket star Suryakumar Yadav celebrated his 35th birthday on Sunday, and his teammates Kuldeep Yadav and Harshit Rana couldn’t resist sending warm wishes. The duo, key players in India’s bowling attack, shared sweet messages on Instagram, highlighting the bond within the team.

Kuldeep, the crafty spinner, posted a simple yet heartfelt “Happy Birthday dada” on his story. Meanwhile, young pacer Harshit Rana went with “Happy Birthday Surya bhai,” showing the respect Suryakumar commands in the dressing room.

Suryakumar Yadav, often hailed as a T20 wizard, brings a calm yet fearless vibe to the pitch. Fans compare his stylish strokeplay to South Africa’s AB de Villiers, the legendary Mr 360. He debuted for India at 30 against England, proving age is just a number. After struggling as a lower-order batter for Kolkata Knight Riders from 2014 to 2017, he bounced back strongly with Mumbai Indians, earning his India cap and becoming a T20 sensation.

Remember that epic first-ball six he smashed against England’s Jofra Archer in his international debut? It showed his hunger to dominate from the start. In T20Is, Suryakumar shines brightest. He has racked up 2,605 runs in 80 innings at an average of 38.30 and a blistering strike rate of 167.30. That’s four centuries, 21 fifties, and a best score of 117, making him India’s third-highest T20I run-scorer ever.

His stellar 2022 form saw him score a record 1,164 runs in 31 innings for an Indian batter in a calendar year, with an average of 46.56 and strike rate of 187.43—two tons and nine fifties included. That tally ranks as the third-highest in T20I history for a year. Teaming up with Virat Kohli, he’s the joint-fastest to 2,000 T20I runs, reaching it in just 56 innings.

Suryakumar’s accolades don’t stop there. He clinched back-to-back ICC Men’s T20I Player of the Year awards in 2022 and 2023. As captain since last year, he has guided India to 13 wins, two losses, and one tie in 16 T20Is. In the 2024 T20 World Cup, he helped India lift the trophy, famously taking that game-changing catch to dismiss South Africa’s David Miller, sealing a seven-run victory when India defended 177.

During the tournament, Suryakumar scored 199 runs in eight innings at an average of 28.42 and strike rate of 135.37, with two fifties and a best of 53—he was India’s second-highest scorer and ninth overall. Across T20 World Cups, he boasts 480 runs in 18 matches at 40.00 average and 158.94 strike rate, including five half-centuries and a top score of 94. His debut World Cup in 2022 in Australia was magical: 239 runs in six innings at 59.75 average and 189.68 strike rate, with three fifties and a best of 68, finishing as the third-highest run-getter.

With 16 Player of the Match awards in T20Is—tied with Virat Kohli for third all-time—Suryakumar Yadav continues to redefine T20 cricket. On his special day, cricket fans worldwide wish him many more milestones ahead.
