Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently thanked Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni for her heartfelt birthday wishes on his 75th birthday. In a warm post on X (formerly Twitter), Modi said, “Thank you Prime Minister Meloni for your warm wishes. Deeply appreciate Italy’s friendship and look forward to strengthening it further.” This exchange highlights the growing India-Italy ties and the strong bond between the two leaders.
Meloni had shared a photo with Modi on X, wishing him a happy 75th birthday. She praised his strength and determination in leading millions, adding, “With friendship and esteem, I wish him health and energy to continue leading India toward a bright future and to further strengthen the relations between our nations.” Her message underscores the inspiring India-Italy friendship that’s captured attention worldwide.
Just a week earlier, on September 10, Modi and Meloni held a productive phone call. They reaffirmed their commitment to deepen the India-Italy Strategic Partnership, covering areas like investment, defence, security, space, science and technology, education, people-to-people ties, and counter-terrorism. The leaders also discussed global issues, including the need for a quick and peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict. Modi reiterated India’s full support for such efforts.
During the call, Modi thanked Meloni for Italy’s backing on key initiatives. This includes wrapping up a mutually beneficial India-EU trade agreement and boosting connectivity via the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEEC). Meloni also voiced support for India’s upcoming AI Impact Summit in 2026, showing how both nations are aligning on future-focused goals.
After the conversation, Modi posted on X: “Had an excellent conversation with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. We reaffirmed our joint commitment to deepen India-Italy Strategic Partnership, and shared interest in bringing an early end to the conflict in Ukraine. Thanked PM Meloni for Italy’s proactive support for concluding a mutually beneficial India-EU trade agreement and promoting connectivity through the IMEEEC initiative.”
The Prime Minister’s Office noted that the leaders reviewed progress in their bilateral partnership and pledged to advance it under the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025-29. Their rapport isn’t new—Modi last met Meloni at the G7 Summit in Canada’s Kananaskis in June. There, they shook hands, chatted briefly, and committed to stronger ties. Meloni shared a photo with the caption, “Italy and India, bound by a great friendship.” Modi replied on X, “Fully agree with you, PM Giorgia Meloni. India’s friendship with Italy will continue to get stronger, greatly benefiting our people!”
This easy chemistry between Modi and Meloni has gone viral on social media, even sparking the fun hashtag #Melodi. It’s a sign of how personal connections are powering real progress in India-Italy relations and broader global partnerships.
