Afghan police are cracking down hard on drug trafficking, and they’ve scored another big win in the northern province of Badakhshan. On Monday morning, counter-narcotics teams raided a spot in the Darayem district after getting a tip-off. They busted a secret drug processing lab and seized 170 kg of processed opium poppy—enough to make heroin. Five suspects got arrested right there at the scene.
Ehsanullah Kamgar, the provincial police spokesman, shared the details, calling it a major blow to the illegal drug trade. This raid is part of Afghanistan’s nationwide push to wipe out poppy farming, heroin production, and smuggling networks. The government is dead serious about ending narcotics in the country.
Just a week earlier, on September 8, police in the southern Helmand province smashed six drug processing labs. They grabbed over 10,000 kg of materials used to make heroin. Operations happened around Lashkar Gah, the capital, and in nearby districts. Mullah Ezatullah Haqqani, the local police spokesman, said the teams destroyed the labs and confiscated the dangerous stuff on the spot.
That same day, the Ministry of Interior Affairs reported even more action across several provinces. In Panjshir, Baghlan, Kunduz, and Balkh, officers found 292 kg of opium, heroin, and hashish. They arrested 12 suspected drug smugglers. Up north, another bust uncovered 145 kg of illegal drugs, leading to 10 more arrests.
The crackdown didn’t stop there. On Sunday, in Kunduz province, police nabbed three people with 106 kg of opium poppy and 32 kg of hashish. In neighboring Baghlan, they caught a man carrying 4 kg of hashish. And in Balkh, six suspects ended up in custody with 3 kg of illegal drugs.
The Ministry’s statement on X (formerly Twitter) was clear: Afghan police won’t let anyone produce or smuggle drugs on their watch. These efforts show how determined the country is to fight the drug menace and build a safer future.
