Kuala Lumpur – India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met South Korea’s Foreign Minister Cho Hyun on the sidelines of ASEAN meetings in Malaysia. The two leaders talked about boosting joint work in automotive parts, electronics, semiconductor chips, defence systems and shipbuilding, and celebrated ten years of India‑South Korea’s Special Strategic Partnership.
In a quick X tweet, Jaishankar said he was “delighted to meet FM Cho Hyun of RoK” and thanked South Korea for tightening the partnership. Cho echoed the sentiment in a reply, noting it was their second meeting in two months and that they will deepen ties in trade, investment, supply‑chain technology, defence and get India’s support for Korean firms.
The meeting followed Jaishankar’s recent visit to Malaysia, where he will represent Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 20th East Asia Summit on Monday. The summit will focus on peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo‑Pacific region.
Jaishankar and Cho had first met in August in Delhi, where they explored new opportunities in artificial intelligence, clean energy and maritime cooperation. Both ministers praised the growing convergence between the two countries and their wider engagement across the Indo‑Pacific.
India‑South Korea ties have grown faster than ever: more joint projects in high‑tech manufacturing, stronger defence collaboration and increased trade flows. As the Special Strategic Partnership turns ten, the two ministers are committed to turning the milestone into a launchpad for greater economic and strategic cooperation.
