Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi recently hosted Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri in Cairo for key talks on boosting ties between the two nations. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and ramping up coordination amid regional challenges, according to an official statement from the Egyptian presidency.
The leaders highlighted the need to expand cooperation across various sectors. They see the upcoming 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee in Cairo as a major opportunity. This platform will help deepen partnerships, especially in trade and investment, opening doors for new growth.
Sisi and Zenzri agreed to step up efforts to tackle Middle East tensions and resolve ongoing crises. They also pushed for private businesses in Egypt and Tunisia to team up on development projects in Africa, which would boost both countries’ influence in the region.
The Joint Higher Committee meetings kick off on Thursday at Egypt’s New Administrative Capital. Prime ministers from both sides will co-chair the opening session. Discussions will cover key areas like renewable energy, digital transformation, agriculture, and transportation. The Egyptian-Tunisian Business Council will review fresh investment opportunities for private sectors too.
This comes as the Middle East faces rising tensions. On the same day, Tunisia and Iran showed strong support for Palestinians during foreign ministers’ talks in Tunis. They urged global powers to act more decisively on the Gaza conflict.
Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti met his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi and stressed deepening ties in trade, medicine, and beyond. Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia’s backing for Iran against threats to the Arab-Islamic world. He welcomed Iran’s fresh cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling it a positive move to ease regional strains.
Araghchi, on a visit to Tunis, described the bond between the two nations as “fraternal and solid.” He committed to growing economic, scientific, and cultural links. The Iranian minister announced plans for a joint economic commission soon and invited Nafti to Tehran for more talks.
These developments signal growing diplomatic efforts in North Africa and the broader region, focusing on unity and economic progress.
