Starlink Internet Outage Hits Thousands: Users Frustrated as Service Goes Down Again
Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service faced major disruptions on Monday, leaving thousands of users without connection. If you’re relying on Starlink for your internet needs, this latest outage might have caught you off guard too.
Outage-tracking site Downdetector recorded nearly 50,000 reports by 10:01 a.m. Most complaints came from the US, hitting states like Virginia, Louisiana, Indiana, and Washington hard. Some users in Colombia also lost their signal. Starlink quickly acknowledged the problem on its website, saying, "Starlink is currently experiencing a service outage. Our team is investigating." But the company didn’t explain what caused it.
Breaking down the issues, 59% of users dealt with spotty internet, 40% saw a complete blackout, and 1% struggled with weak reception. Some folks reported short glitches lasting just minutes, while others waited over 20 minutes for service to bounce back. Frustrated customers flooded X (formerly Twitter) with complaints. One user vented, "Starlink is down again. These outages are getting more frequent." Another added, "Another Starlink outage AGAIN…. Thought it was mine. Now I see everybody getting problems too."
Elon Musk hasn’t commented yet on this incident, but it echoes a bigger global outage back in July. That one lasted almost three hours and affected users across North America, Europe, and parts of Asia. On Thursday night during that event, Musk posted on X to apologize "for the disruption" and promised it "doesn’t happen again."
For those new to Starlink, it beams high-speed internet from a massive network of satellites circling Earth. Right now, the service runs the world’s largest satellite constellation with over 6,750 satellites in orbit. It reaches customers in 150 countries, bringing reliable broadband to remote areas where traditional cables can’t go.
Closer to home, Starlink is gearing up for a big push in India. The company has cleared all hurdles with Indian authorities, grabbed trial bandwidth, and picked 17 spots for ground stations. These stations will link the low-Earth orbit satellites to local fiber and data networks. Experts expect the full launch in India by the end of 2025, which could transform internet access in rural spots.
Outages like this highlight the challenges of satellite internet, but Starlink keeps expanding. If you’re facing issues, keep an eye on their updates—hopefully, things stabilize soon.
