Country with deeply stained record of bigotry and repression, Pakistan has no moral standing to lecture others: MEA

New Delhi, Nov 26 – India sharply rebuked Pakistan’s remarks about hoisting a flag at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple in Ayodhya, saying Islamabad has no moral standing to lecture others when its own record of bigotry, repression and systemic mistreatment of minorities is so damning.
ME‑A spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told a weekly news briefing that Pakistan should turn its eyes inward and review its own human‑rights failures rather than issue hypocritical admonitions. When pressed on Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry statement, Jaiswal dismissed the comments as contemptible, reiterating that Pakistan’s history of discrimination strips it of any ethical claim to critique.

India’s reaction followed Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemning the flag‑hoisting and alleging that it signals a broader pattern of marginalising religious minorities in India.

Last month, at the United Nations, India launched a fierce indictment of Pakistan’s support for terrorism. First Secretary Raghoo Puri, speaking on 22 Oct, warned the world that Pakistan continues to sponsor cross‑border attacks and to use violence as a state policy against India. He added that terrorism remains humanity’s gravest threat and that allies like Pakistan are “the worst violator of human rights”. Puri reminded the assembly that the brutal killings of 26 civilians in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025 by Pakistan‑trained terrorists have not been forgotten, and he accused Pakistan of “peddling lies and making false equivalences” during a dialogue with the special rapporteur on fundamental freedoms and counter‑terrorism.

India has also continually pointed to Pakistan’s recent air strikes on Afghanistan as blatant violations of the UN Charter and international law. Moreover, at the UN, India recalled the genocide that Pakistan perpetrated in Bangladesh during its 1971 War of Independence, arguing that Pakistan’s claims of “Islamophobia” mask a state policy of religious and ethnic persecution. The diplomat noted that the country’s use of labels such as “Khawarij/Fitna”—terms with a “special religious connotation” referring to historical dissident factions—has further dehumanised minority groups, normalising the dehumanisation of ethnic and religious minorities. Islamabad has institutionalised persecution of Hindu, Christian and Ahmadiyya communities in the name of religion, policy that persists without accountability.
