On Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Cairo to back the new ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. He said the trip comes at a vital moment, as world leaders push to end the fighting and lay the groundwork for lasting peace in the Middle East.
Macron will publicly reaffirm France’s support for the agreement and will meet with partners to map out the next steps for implementing the peace plan. He also plans to discuss how France and its allies can move on to the post‑conflict phase, focusing on security, governance and rebuilding.
His visit coincides with a summit the United States is hosting in Egypt, led by President Donald Trump, who will meet other leaders early next week. The joint efforts aim to translate the current truce into a sustainable political solution based on a two‑state framework.
After the overnight signing of the ceasefire, Macron praised the diplomatic work that freed hostages. In a post on X, he said the deal “gives great hope for the hostages and their families, for the Palestinians in Gaza, and for the whole region.” He thanked President Trump and the Qatari, Egyptian and Turkish mediators who helped secure the agreement.
Macron urged all parties to strictly observe the terms of the ceasefire: “This agreement must mark the end of war and the beginning of a political solution that allows two states to live peacefully side by side.”
France says it remains ready to contribute to reconstruction and peace‑building efforts in the region. The French presidency will discuss these commitments further this afternoon in Paris with international partners.
