A young Peruvian vocalist suffered an electric shock from his own microphone during a live show, shocking everyone in the packed venue.
Carlos Suárez, the frontman of the rock band Mi Mejor Amigo Scott, was preparing to go onstage when he grabbed the mic and was suddenly jolted by a surge of electricity, causing him to collapse in agony.
The terrifying scene was filmed and shared online, showing Suárez falling back onto the stage as he let out primal screams amid the roaring crowd.
Local news outlet Buenos Días Perú reported that the 21‑year‑old lay motionless on the floor for several seconds while sparks burst from the band’s gear, then began writting on the ground while calling for help.
In the clip, the audience could be heard shouting, “The current, the current.”
Two men—believed to be a sound technician and a member of a nearby band— rushed onto the stage to disconnect the equipment.
The lead singer, affectionately nicknamed Mono (Monkey), was quickly transferred to a hospital where he received treatment for first‑degree burns.
Despite the life‑threatening incident, Suárez later posted a video on Instagram, reassuring his followers that he was recovering.
“I went through a very traumatic situation and came close to losing my life,” he said in Spanish in the clip. “What happened could have had fatal consequences. But I am OK health wise. I have a couple of burns on my neck but no other complications thankfully.”
With a bandage wrapped around his neck, the rocker explained that he had plugged his guitar into the amplifier, reached for the mic and “received an electric shock that paralysed me for about seven seconds.”
He continued, “All I could do was scream and fall to the floor, where I continued to be electrocuted. That was when the microphone fell onto my neck and caused two first‑degree burns, which fortunately were superficial, which is why my neck is bandaged and I’m taking medication.”
He added, “But I’m pleased to say that apart from the burns to my neck, I am in good health, I am stable, and I have no complications in my body. I was conscious throughout and although I was in shock, I was able to get back up onto my feet afterwards.”
The young rocker said he would be “taking a break from live performances until further notice” while he continues to recover from his injuries.
