At the 60th Session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, three international NGOs raised their voices loud and clear. They called for urgent global action against cross-border terrorism coming from Pakistan. This came right after the shocking Pahalgam terror attack in India on April 22, where militants killed 26 civilians—people targeted just because of their religion—while they were enjoying a family holiday in Jammu and Kashmir.
The attack points fingers at Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba militants. Experts see it as part of a bigger problem: state-sponsored terrorism that’s shaking up the entire region and putting lives at risk.
Sai Sampath Mettu from EcoFawn didn’t hold back. He called the Pahalgam attack a brutal hit on basic human rights—like the right to life, freedom of movement, safe travel, and practicing your religion freely. These are protections everyone should have under international law.
Hansraj Singh from Sambhali Trust slammed the killings as the latest in a string of horrible attacks. “These acts aim to spread hate and fear, all backed by state powers,” he said, highlighting how they target innocent people to create chaos.
Javed Ahmad Beigh from RSKS NGO shared a heartbreaking story to show the human cost. He talked about vulnerable young people in Pakistan getting brainwashed into violence. Take Tahir, a recruit from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). He joined the militants who carried out the Pahalgam massacre and later died in a clash with Indian security forces. On July 30, 2025, his village of Kuiyaan held a funeral for him in absentia—a sad reminder of how terrorism destroys lives on all sides.
Beigh didn’t stop there. He warned that UN bodies and committees mean nothing if they can’t call out these crimes against humanity and make the real sponsors—like those funding terrorism in PoJK—face justice.
The NGOs pushed hard for the UNHRC to step up. They want a fact-finding mission sent to PoJK right away to dig into who’s financing and running these terror networks. At the same time, they praised India’s strong stand against terrorism and its willingness to team up with the world to fight this growing threat.
This push at the UN Human Rights Council shows how cross-border terrorism from Pakistan keeps grabbing global attention, especially after attacks like Pahalgam that hit families and communities hard.
