Massive Protest in Berlin Demands End to Germany’s Arms Support for Israel
In a powerful show of solidarity, over 12,000 people took to the streets of Berlin on September 14 to protest Israel’s ongoing military actions in Gaza and Germany’s decision to keep sending weapons to Israel. The huge crowd gathered right in front of the iconic Brandenburg Gate, waving signs and chanting for peace.
Protesters made it clear: they want Germany to stop all arms shipments to Israel right now. One demonstrator told Tolo News, "Germany must show that genocide has to stop. It needs to completely halt all military supplies. Our politicians should step up and push for an end to this conflict as soon as possible."
Another participant shared their thoughts on the shocking impact of Israel’s Gaza operations. "We all support peace," they said. "The consequences are heartbreaking. I think if the United States takes more responsibility, it should pressure Israel—especially those aggressive groups always pushing for war. I know many people feel the same."
The Berlin protest against Israeli assaults on Gaza didn’t stop there. Many called on Germany to officially recognize an independent Palestinian state. Some even pointed fingers at the US for backing Israel’s military moves, urging a shift in global support.
Echoing the urgency, yet another protester stressed, "Germany has to prove genocide must end. Stop all arms supplies immediately. Leaders need to act and wrap up this conflict fast. Palestine deserves recognition as an independent state."
At the same time, across the border in Tel Aviv, families of Israeli hostages held their own rally. They’re pressing the Israeli government to wrap up the Gaza war and bring their loved ones home safely. These families slammed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for risking hostage release talks by targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar.
Matan Zangauker, whose freedom is on the line, vented his frustration. "This week, we saw the Prime Minister’s total failure," he said to Tolo News. "He gambled with hostages’ lives and tried to wipe out the Hamas negotiation team—right when talks for my release were happening."
Yair Horn, fighting for his son’s return, added, "Anyone serious about getting hostages back wouldn’t bomb the Hamas team during talks about releasing my son and others."
These protests highlight the growing global calls for peace amid the Israel-Gaza conflict, with voices from Berlin to Tel Aviv demanding real action to stop the violence and secure a lasting solution.
