Copenhagen, Denmark (September 29) – Europe still leads the world in tackling climate change, but it needs to ramp up its efforts to protect the environment and build stronger defenses against global warming, according to the European Environment Agency (EEA).
The agency highlighted real wins in cutting greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality. In a new report released Monday, the EEA shared data from 38 countries across the continent, showing EU emissions have dropped 37% since 1990. This progress comes from slashing reliance on fossil fuels and doubling renewable energy use since 2005.
Yet, the overall picture for Europe’s environment isn’t bright. Nature faces ongoing threats like degradation, overuse of resources, and biodiversity loss, the report warns. These challenges underscore the urgent need for bolder action on climate resilience and environmental protection.
