US President Donald Trump wrapped up his UK visit on Thursday, but not without a small hiccup on the way out. While flying back with First Lady Melania Trump, their helicopter hit a minor hydraulic issue, forcing a quick landing at a nearby airfield. No worries though—the couple safely switched to a backup chopper and made it to Stansted Airport, though a bit late.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared the details, saying the pilots landed out of caution before reaching the airport. “The president and first lady boarded the support helicopter without any problems,” she told reporters traveling with them. CNN first reported the story, citing White House sources.
Before heading home, Trump joined UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a joint press conference in London. There, he chatted about his strong bonds with India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Trump mentioned calling Modi to wish him a happy birthday recently, calling their relationship “very good.” He even joked about past sanctions on India while praising Modi’s kind response. “I’m very close to India and the Prime Minister of India,” Trump said, highlighting the solid ties between New Delhi and Washington.
Trump didn’t shy away from global hot topics either. On the Russia-Ukraine war, he expressed disappointment in Russian President Vladimir Putin. “He let me down,” Trump said, pointing out the heavy losses on both sides. He claimed Russian soldiers are dying at a higher rate than Ukrainian ones, adding that the conflict has been tougher to end than he expected.
Trump firmly stated the war wouldn’t have started if he were still in the White House. “This would have never happened had I been president,” he insisted. “It didn’t happen for four years under me, and most people agree it wasn’t even close.” The visit marked another chapter in Trump’s international diplomacy, blending personal stories with big-world issues.
