Labour MP Preet Kaur Gill has strongly condemned a shocking racially motivated attack on a young Sikh woman in Oldbury, UK. The incident happened recently, and it’s left the local community reeling from the hate and violence.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Gill shared her outrage. She described the attack as “horrific” and “extreme violence,” noting that police are treating it as racially aggravated. The attackers reportedly told the victim she “does not belong here.” Gill fired back, saying, “She does belong here.” She emphasized that the Sikh community, like every community in Britain, deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. “Racism and misogyny have no place in Oldbury, or anywhere in Britain,” she added, sending her thoughts to the victim, her family, and the wider Sikh community.
Gill, who represents the area as a Labour MP, knows the fears firsthand. Many of her constituents have reached out to her, worried about rising overt racism in the UK. “I hear you,” she reassured them. She’s already teaming up with West Midlands Police to catch those responsible and boost community safety. “No one should have to live in fear because of who they are,” Gill said. She pledged to push for tougher action against hate crimes and better support for victims. “Together, we must stand united against violence and hatred.”
Adding a personal touch, Gill highlighted her deep roots in the area. Born and raised in Oldbury, she pointed to her family’s long history of contributing to Britain. Her grandfather and great-grandfather even fought in the World Wars for the country. “They sacrificed for this country because they believed in it, and I’m proud of that heritage,” she said. She urged people to learn more about Sikh history to understand these contributions better.
This attack comes amid broader tensions in the UK over immigration and racism. The nation remains divided, with groups like Stand Up To Racism clashing with others pushing back on the issue. As hate crimes rise, voices like Gill’s call for unity and stronger safeguards to protect everyone.
