Tragedy struck early Saturday morning on National Highway 48 in Gurugram when a speeding Mahindra Thar SUV crashed into a divider, killing five people. The accident happened around 4:30 a.m. at Exit 9, near the Rajiv Chowk turnoff, police said.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, and it slammed into the divider with tremendous force. Three women and two men died at the scene. Another man suffered serious injuries and rushed to Medanta Hospital in Gurugram for emergency treatment. The group had driven from Uttar Pradesh to Gurugram for work, according to officials.
Eyewitness visuals from the crash site paint a grim picture: the Thar was completely wrecked, twisted beyond recognition. This Mahindra Thar crash follows another high-speed collision earlier this month in Dhaula Kuan. There, Gaganpreet Kaur allegedly drove her BMW into a motorcycle, critically injuring senior Finance Ministry officer Navjot Singh and his wife. Singh later died from his injuries, while his wife fought severe wounds.
Kaur faces charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and reckless driving. Her court hearing is set for Saturday. Adding to the controversy, rescuers skipped nearby hospitals and took the victims to Nulife Hospital in North Delhi’s GTB Nagar—a place reportedly linked to one of Kaur’s relatives. Prosecutors claim this move might aim to mess with medical evidence or dodge a full probe.
