New Delhi, Oct 25 () – In a big win for India’s police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) worked with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs to bring back wanted criminal Lakhvinder Kumar from the United States.
Kumar, a key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, arrived in India on Oct 25, 2025, and was taken into custody by Haryana police at Delhi airport.
The CBI says the fugitive faces many cases in Haryana, including extortion, intimidation, illegal gun possession, and an attempt to murder. The police requested an INTERPOL Red Notice, which the CBI issued on Oct 26, 2024. The notice helped the authorities track and deport him.
India’s National Central Bureau for INTERPOL used the BHARATPOL platform to share information with U.S. officials, making the extradition smooth. A Red Notice is a worldwide alert that allows police to locate and detain fugitives while extradition is arranged.
India has already returned more than 130 wanted criminals through such international cooperation. This latest operation strengthens the country’s fight against transnational organised crime.
Just a month earlier, the CBI and Haryana police extracted another wanted man, Mainpal Dhilla (also known as Sonu Kumar), from Cambodia on Sep 2, 2025. Dhilla has a life‑sentence conviction for murder, attempted murder, illegal firearms use, and conspiracy.
In late August, the CBI helped bring Harshit Babulal Jain, accused of tax evasion and money‑laundering, back from the UAE. He was handed over to Gujarat police at Ahmedabad International Airport on Sep 5.
These coordinated actions show that India is tightening its crackdown on criminals who cross borders to escape justice.
