A tragic car crash in eastern Afghanistan’s Laghman province claimed one life and injured three people early Thursday morning. The accident happened when a vehicle flipped over on a busy highway connecting Kabul to Nangarhar province, according to local police.
Officials pointed to reckless driving as the main cause. The crash unfolded in the Kakakh area, killing one passenger on the spot and sending the other three to the hospital.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Just a week earlier, on September 17, a horrific collision between a car and a passenger bus in Wardak province left seven travelers dead and two more hurt. That smash-up occurred on the key route from Kabul to southern Kandahar, a road notorious for deadly accidents due to careless drivers.
Wardak’s highways see too many crashes because of driver negligence, police say. They keep reminding motorists to follow traffic rules to avoid these heartbreaking losses.
Adding to the toll that same day in northern Afghanistan, a vehicle in Badakhshan province veered off a steep path in the Argo district and plunged into a deep ravine. Three people died instantly, including the driver, while two children suffered injuries, said provincial police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar. The car lost control on the tricky terrain, highlighting the dangers there.
Road accidents like these plague war-ravaged Afghanistan, fueled by crumbling roads, speeding drivers, and spotty safety features. The rugged landscape and weak infrastructure make every trip a risk, urging officials to push for better enforcement and repairs.
