Pakistan’s harsh treatment of minorities, especially Hindus and Sindhis, shows how the country often puts extreme religious views ahead of basic rights, according to a new report. Hindus face the worst of it through abuse of blasphemy laws and mob attacks, turning everyday disputes into deadly threats for non-Muslims.

The report, published in Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror, highlights a sharp rise in blasphemy cases across Pakistan. In 2024 alone, police registered at least 475 such accusations—a big jump that points to how easily people twist these laws for revenge or bias. Just saying someone committed blasphemy can spark killer crowds. Vigilantes have lynched suspects, and whole neighborhoods get targeted after false claims. Shockingly, attackers rarely face punishment, which only encourages more violence. Police often stand by or even join the chaos, while the government cozies up to hardline Islamists instead of protecting victims.

For Pakistan’s Hindus, these laws act like a free pass to target minorities. A simple rumor can lead to homes burning down or family members murdered, with justice out of reach. Beyond blasphemy, Hindus deal with forced conversions and the loss of their cultural roots. In 2025, kidnappings of Hindu girls and even kids for coerced switches to Islam have spiked, especially in Sindh province.

Take this disturbing case from June: Four Hindu teens, including three girls, got abducted in Sindh and forced to convert. A local court bought the story that they did it willingly, making these horrors feel all too normal. Human rights groups say underage Hindu girls face nonstop abductions and forced marriages in Sindh and Punjab, but Pakistani officials look the other way. These acts rip families apart and keep the community in fear.

Hindus’ physical landmarks suffer too. Years of neglect and attacks have wrecked most temples. A court probe found that out of 365 Hindu temples in Pakistan, the government only properly cares for 13. The other 287 sit abandoned, falling apart, or taken over illegally. Extremists trash these sites without consequences, erasing Hindu heritage bit by bit.

Sindhis, mostly Muslims in southeast Pakistan, face their own heavy-handed crackdown, the report says. Things have gotten worse under Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, who’s led since late 2022. Munir pushes a strict Islamist view that slams Hindus and other non-Muslims. His time in charge has fueled nationalist hate and given extremists more power, putting minorities at even greater risk.
