US Treasury Department mulls minting USD 1 Trump coin

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Treasury Department is looking at a new one‑dollar coin that would show former President Donald Trump to mark the country’s 250th anniversary of independence next year.

The draft design, created under Treasury Secretary Brandon Beach, shows a profile of Trump on one side. The other side carries his image with a clenched fist in front of an American flag, along with the words “FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT.”

Although the coin is still a proposal, Treasury officials say the theme reflects the nation’s spirit as it approaches 2026, the year of the semiquincentennial celebration.

Congress passed bipartisan legislation in 2020 that authorizes the Treasury Secretary to issue one‑dollar coins during 2026. Those coins must represent the United States’ 250‑year anniversary, a requirement set in the law.

A U.S. currency rule, however, limits the use of living people on money. It is unclear whether a coin depicting Trump would comply with that rule, and the Treasury has not yet confirmed a final design.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters she wasn’t sure if Trump had seen the plan. “I don’t know if he’s aware, but I can tell you he’d love it,” she said.

As the Treasury moves forward, observers will watch closely to see if the Trump coin makes it into the 2026 commemorations and whether it can navigate the legal hurdles around featuring living presidents on U.S. currency.
