At least 3 dead, 11 injured in cargo plane crash in Kentucky, US

At least three people died and 11 others were hurt when a UPS cargo plane slammed into the ground a few minutes after taking off from Louisville International Airport, Kentucky, authorities confirmed on November 5.
United Parcel Service Flight 2976, a McDonnell Douglas MD‑11F, left Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport around 5:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday, November 4, on a flight bound for Honolulu. The aircraft, built in 1991, could carry more than 38,000 gallons of fuel and weigh up to 633,000 pounds at take‑off.
Governor Andy Beshear told reporters that at least three people were killed and the death toll may rise. “We believe we have at least three fatalities. I believe that number is going to get larger,” he said. Beshear also warned that the situation remains dangerous because of flammable fuels and potential debris that could ignite.
The crash produced a large fireball, and emergency responders had to shelter behind nearby structures to stay safe. Capitol police then issued a shelter‑in‑place order covering all areas within five miles of the airport. The order was later extended to include every location north of the airport up to the Ohio River.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation. The NTSB will oversee the probe and release updates as new information becomes available.
Locals have been cautioned to stay away from the expanded danger zone until authorities finish their investigation and clean‑up work. The incident has drawn attention to safety protocols for heavy‑fuel aircraft and cargo flights taking off from busy U.S. hubs.
