Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi met Ethiopia’s army chief, General Alemshet Degife Balcha, on Friday in New Delhi. The two leaders talked about strengthening joint training, boosting peacekeeping forces and building each country’s defence capacity.
The talks were part of the UNTCC 2025 Chiefs’ Conclave that India hosted from October 14‑16. The Indian Army used the event to deepen ties with its African partners and to underline India’s push for a united front on United Nations peacekeeping missions.
After Ethiopia, General Dwivedi met Major General Fadhil Omary Nondo, the land‑force commander of Tanzania. They agreed to expand defence cooperation, share training exchanges and look for ways to work together on UN peacekeeping and capacity‑building projects.
On the same sidelines the chief also spoke with Major General Jean‑Claude Niyiburana, chief of the Burundian land forces. Their discussion focused on deepening defence links, increasing joint training and boosting collaboration for UN missions.
The conclave closed with a ceremony where President Droupadi Murmu joined the chiefs and representatives from UN troop‑contributing nations in a virtual call from Rashtrapati Bhavan. The event reaffirmed a shared commitment to safer, more stable regions through stronger military partnerships and multilateral engagement.
